Tribute to genius

The Road to the Western Lands - 1998

The Road to the Western Lands is a collection of radical mix translations from Material's Seven Souls. This work revolves around the words and voice of the late William S. Burroughs who died August 2nd, 1997.

Presented here are seven sound constructions derived and mutated from the original sources. Created by methods similar to those used by Burroughs himself with artist Brion Gysin to produce alternate results with writing...(the cut-ups).

This is a tribute to the mind, the life, and the words of William S. Burroughs, the singularity of his vision and his certainty in the power of language. His words are weapons against those who are bent by stupidity or design on blowing up the planet. (daqui)

Virtuoso

Paragon Black - 2007
Paragon Black is a mysterious musical project manned by the equally mysterious Wings of an Angel and Agent Smith. Their music is a tantalizing mixture of hip-hop, acid jazz, ambient and new age. There is a distinctly spiritual aspect to this music, stimulating yet soothing, thoughtful yet meditative.
Their self-titled album has a cinematic feel. It could be called a soundtrack to a state of mind. Poetic rapping reveals a very philosophical theme that makes you pause and think. Throughout it all are exotic beats and dreamlike instrumental backing. The opening track “Kourakan Prayer” is a good example of how all this comes together. Other tracks like “Rhythm of The Universe” and “Traveler’s Opus” explore world music. Paragon Black is a fascinating journey into the old and the new. (daqui)

Transcendent

Intonarumori - 1999

Experimental punk-jazz-funk-noise-electro NYC band, founded in 1978 by bassist Bill Laswell and keyboard player Michael Beinhorn.
Material was not only a band name, but an alias for the intensive production work of the duo (for
Afrika Bambaataa, Herbie Hancock, Nona Hendryx ...).Michael Beinhorn left the 'band' in 1985. In the 90s, Material became more world/indian/afro/ambient/dub-oriented. (daqui)

Virtuous Aussies

Pursuit of Happiness - 2009
From Australia, a reggae-blessed hip-hop group called Astronomy Class, released their second album, which I strongly recommend without hesitations.

A Delightful Journey

Get It Together - 2009
If 'inventive concepts' and 'creative constructs' were two phrases that needed to be used in a music appraisal, then they would apply here.
The imagination and pure intelligence that SOLA ROSA has brought to this sparkling jewel of a debut album is unquantifiable, which ultimately leaves us to simply enjoy the record for all it's worth and to pronounce 'Solarized' as something that is…wickedly cool. Essential, in fact. (daqui)

Dead Serious

Burn and Rise EP - 2010
Hailing from Munich, Panic Girl alias Martha Plachetka dedicated her life to music from an early age. After receiving classical training in piano, guitar, and singing she got deep into the production of electronic music.
Panic Girl's debut EP "Burn And Rise" is an outstanding and versatile piece of music. Genrewise it can mainly be described as a rich mix of different electronic styles with a deep trip hop angle. Starting with the anthemic "Midnight", listeners get dragged into Panic Girls's disturbed world from the first second.
Being dead serious about her art, she not only writes her own lyrics and music, but as well produces all recordings on her own.

"Queen of Neo-Soul"

New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) - 2010
Erykah Badu, Grammy Award-winning American R&B/Soul singer, songwriter and actress born in Dallas.
She is known as the "First Lady of Neo-Soul" or the "Queen of Neo Soul".
Contrasting its sonically complex and socially-themed predecessor, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) (2008), the new album contains a prominently groove-based, analog sound with personal and love-related lyrical themes.Upon its release, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) received general acclaim from most music critics.
Most of the lyrics here dwell on relationships, which Badu handles with a confidence and informality that most of square-ass, tax-filing society just hasn't caught up to and probably never will.

From Russia with love

in frame - 2010
This is a great album by the two Russian natives Monokle & Galun (producer Vladislav Kudryavtsev and musician Sergey Galunenko). This album contains the type of sound that would make you classify the music with something as generic as “electronic” because of how complex it is in structure. Galun’s vocals blended with Monokle’s production is absolutely awesome.

Fusão perfeita

Distant Relatives - 2010
Distant Relatives is a collaborative studio album by American rapper Nas and Jamaican reggae artist Damian Marley, fusing musical elements of hip hop and reggae.

"Mignon"

Welcome To Zebraville - 2004
Debra and Laurent met in 2000 in a Parisian bistrot , rue lepic. Laurent was a composer and a sound designer and Debra, freshly out of the eurostar, a singer and voice over artist. So, it was natural for them to start experimenting musically together. Zebraville was born.

Virgin Souls

162 - 2003
An album with pure imagination and creative artistry.
Virgin Souls - 162 presents listeners with an atmosphere filled with emotion and a clearly distinct passion for music, as opposed to the generic electronic-ambient music of their contemporaries.

Clearly urbanised in sound, 162 offers more than one would expect to from an album in this genre and has something to offer every TRUE audiophile.(e-Bay)

Estimulante

Air control - 2001
Lost Balance is Isabel and Mariano's musical project. Sensitive and intimistic music. A blend of pop and experimentation, electronica and the analogical, noise and silence.
A constant exchange of instruments, voices, ideas... There are no formulas in Lost Balance. Each song is a living creature on its own and requires a different way of being treated.(World of Trip Hop)

Boas Memórias...

The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990's with their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, which became a commercial success and sold over five million copies in the United States. The group was one of the most successful rock acts of the 90's and sold over 14.5 million albums in the U.S. alone. (Wiki)

Lusitanos

Electronico - 2002
Madredeus is a Portuguese band. Their music combines traditional Portuguese music (many times erroneously associated with the subgenre of Fado) with influences of modern folk music. The lyrics are often melancholic and related to the sea or travelling or absence, continuing a tradition of songs that dates back to Medieval times.(Wiki)

Long Live TripHop !!!

A Girls Wish EP - 2006
Influenced by the Bristol sound of the 90’s, Screenatorium mixes pop and jazz inspirations in order to create a melancolic trip hop, all accentuated by the voice of Nawel Saôdi.
Rythmic and melodic arrangement are completing the masterpiece of an emancipated trip hop far from the cliché usually used in this kind of musical style. For those who thought that trip hop was dead and burried, this is the evidence of the contrary… (Myspace)

Permitido Fumar

Ruby Vroom - 1994

"Primeiro estranha-se, depois entranha-se..."

Wax Poetic - 2000
Wax Poetic, a group that had elements of Thievery Corporation and Joe Henderson all at once. Ilhan Ersahin's work with Wax Poetic brought him to collaborations with Saul Williams, N'Dea Davenport, and the then-unknown Norah Jones.
